4th of July

A lot of times we go up north for the 4th of July but we stayed home this year.  Everyone else in the family had other things they were doing or were out of town except for Scott and Josie so we got together with them for the evening to do a little celebrating of our own.  They came over to our house and we bbq'd hot dogs had corn on the cob and sat and visited while the kids played for a while.  Then Scott and Josie made some homemade ice cream which was yummy then we hurried to find a spot to watch the fireworks in town.  We didn't leave in enough time to make it to our usual spot so we just went to a parking lot on the campus of the college.  It turned out to be a decent spot...just wish I could have gotten to enjoy the fireworks.  Mia is deathly afraid of the noise and cried the whole time we were watching so I ended up taking her to the van and watching out the window...she still had to cover her ears though. :)
This is how Mia & I watched the fireworks
After the city fireworks, we went over to Scott and Josie's to set off a few of our own fireworks.  Mia cried the entire way there and kept saying she was scared because it was too loud.  We tried to reassure her but it didn't matter.  She didn't want anything to do with them...even if they didn't make noise.

The boys were looking forward to it though

Still doing it
Sparklers are always a hit
Mia was no where to be found
Mia's torture didn't end when we got home that night either.  People in our neighborhood let off fireworks for quite a while after she went to bed and she cried through it all.  Hopefully she'll grow out of this because she's been like this from day 1.  But the rest of us had fun spending time together and hanging out.  We just feel so blessed to live in this great country!
