Blue and Gold Banquet

Man, so many things have changed since Randy & my brothers were in scouts.  They never had to make cakes for the Blue and Gold Banquet so it was a little bit of a surprise when we found out Randy & Halen had to make and decorate a cake all on their own.  Randy's quite proficient in the kitchen and likes baking so he was ok with it but trying to fit it in with everything else we had going on that week was a bit of a challenge.

Halen decided he wanted to do a wolf print on top of the cake and Randy added his own piece of flair to it by adding some Japanese kanji that said "wolf".  Randy did an awesome job putting it together and Halen loved it so that's all that mattered. :)

Our ward didn't do much for the dinner.  We just had hogi sandwiches from Walmart and watermelon but it was still nice not to have to make dinner that night.  Halen got a bunch of awards and only needs to pass off a couple more things to get his wolf badge.  Everyone got a chance to vote for their favorite cake but only the top 2 got prizes and Halen's wasn't one of them.  The 2 that won had brought lots of other family members like grandmas, grandpas, aunts & uncles with them so their numbers were a little skewed but oh well.  The cakes were the desserts and all that hard work was done in pretty quick.
Next year we'll know a little more about what we're doing and maybe our cub master will have a few more things planned but Halen's loving scouts and his leaders and he's learning some good things from it so I can't complain.
