We've wanted to take the kids to San Diego to the zoo for quite a while now but things just never worked out to go. We finally made it happen at the end of June. We left on the early flight on Saturday morning, connected through Salt Lake and was in San Diego by 10 am. We picked up our car then went to get some lunch. After eating, we headed over to Old Town to walk around a little bit. Our first stop was at the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center. I visited there several years ago and thought it would be a worthwhile stop for my family but they've changed everything there since I've been and it's even better than it was. It's much more interactive and I think my boys really got a sense of what the people in the Mormon Battalion went through as well as the other pioneers who crossed the plains.

All the kids got in on the story of some of the people and they got to dress up in a little bit of their clothing.

| Mia was a cute pioneer lady in her bonnet |

| Alex volunteered to be a soldier (the rifle weighed half as much as he did) |
 |
| Halen was keeping his head warm in his coon skin cap |
After the tour inside, we got to go out back to do some of the activities that those early settlers would have participated in like brick making, pumping your own water, and panning for gold. The boys got to keep two pieces of gold each...they loved it.

The visitor center took longer than we thought it would but it was totally worth it. I love hearing the amazing stories about those amazing people who sacrificed so much for their faith and their country. But since it was getting late in the afternoon, we didn't spend much more time in Old Town. We walked down a couple streets and shopped for our souvenir magnet (we have one for each place we go to).
After we left Old Town, we drove up to our hotel in Oceanside. We had hoped to go to the beach but we ran out of time so we just spent the evening swimming at the hotel pool before getting some dinner and crashing for the night.
