Lila Fay Kay
Stanley, after living a long and full life of 89 years, returned home to our
Heavenly Father on October 24, 2012 to meet her loved ones in a long-awaited
reunion.
Lila was born on
March 5, 1923 in Mona, Utah to Katie and Edward Kay. She lived most of her life
in Mona.
She married her
sweetheart, LaMar Stanley, August 28, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had
been married 47 years when LaMar passed away August 28, 1989. They were
blessed with four children, Nyra (Roger) Nielson, Ephraim; Rhonda (Mac Niel)
Ogden, St. George; Kevin (Janice) Stanley, Mona; LuAnn (Scott) Christensen, West
Valley. She loved and enjoyed her 17 grandchildren and 36
great-grandchildren.
Mom's life was
spent caring for her family, cooking delicious meals, sewing beautiful clothes
and quilts, and keeping her home clean and delightful. She loved to read books,
play games, do crossword puzzles, watch sports, and just be with her family. We
will always treasure her sense of humor and quick wit.
Along with
homemaking, she was a dedicated school secretary at Juab High School for nearly
25 years. She had a special love for all students. She knew them by name and
remembered them throughout her life. She was a faithful member of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many positions but her
favorite was teaching Sunday School which she did for many years.

Grandma Stanley had gone to the doctor for a checkup on Alex's birthday (Oct 17), and was admitted to hospital in Nephi that day. She had a bit of pneumonia and was having some heart trouble, which she'd had for a few years. On Friday, they transferred her up to Utah Valley hospital in Provo where doctors talked to her about doing surgery to repair her severely blocked heart valves. But before they could operate, they needed to clear up her lungs and get the swelling in her legs down. Randy talked to her on the phone Sunday night and she sounded quite optimistic about how things were going. Randy's mom went up on Monday morning to be with her at the hospital and other than leaving for a quick bite to eat, was there the rest of the time. On Tuesday night, Rhonda said grandma got really restless and started complaining about how much pain she was in. She was given some morphine and was able to relax and fall asleep. Rhonda had told her mom that she would stay with her that night and she did. Not much changed during the night but when the nurse came in to give her the next round of morphine, grandma took her final breath.
When we got the call later that morning, it came as quite a shock to both Randy & I. Randy had talked to his dad earlier in the day on Tuesday and as far as we knew, grandma was still looking to do heart surgery so it all happened pretty quick. But we take comfort in knowing she's reunited with her husband and other family members and that thanks to Christ's atonement, we will be with her again.
A viewing was held in Nephi on Sunday night so we headed up north to be there for that. Monday morning was the viewing and funeral in Mona. Rhonda and all her siblings spoke at the funeral and they all gave a wonderful tribute to a wonderful woman.
